Nigerian Travel Agents Made $2.3 Billion in Ticket Sales For Foreign Carrier in 2014
Travel agencies in Nigeria raked in a staggering $2.3bn from ticket sales for foreign airlines and tour service in 2014.
The President of the National Association of Travel Agencies (NANTA) Aminu Agoha, who disclosed this, stated that out of this amount, $1.4 billion was generated from ticket sales alone during the period under review.
The NANTA President also explained that the ticket sales were done through Billings Settlement Plan (BSP) and involved 1,020 registered travel agents who are members of NANTA.
Agoha added that besides oil and gas and mobile phone companies, foreign airlines records the highest foreign exchange remittances out of Nigeria and this would continue as Nigerian airlines continue to under perform and government continue to approve multi-designation of foreign carriers, as well as increasing frequencies.
